Scale Radio Structuers in the Galactic Center
نویسنده
چکیده
Radio continuum observations of the galactic center region have revealed a number of vertical structures running across the galactic plane. Most of the vertical structures are reasonably attributed either to poloidal magnetic field or to energy release toward the halo. The relation of the continuum structures to the molecular gas rings and their vertical extension are also discussed. Some large-scale ejection features appear to have similarity to bubbles found in external galaxies.

Low - Frequency Radio Transients in the Galactic Center
We report the detection of a new radio transient source, GCRT J1746−2757, located only 1. 1 north of the Galactic center. Consistent with other radio transients toward the Galactic center, this source brightened and faded on a time scale of a few months. No X-ray counterpart was detected. We also report new 0.33 GHz measurements of the radio counterpart to the X-ray transient source, XTE J1748−...
متن کاملG359.87]0.18, an Fr Ii Radio Galaxy 15@ from Sagittarius A*: Implications for the Scattering Region in the Galactic Center
G359.87]0.18 is an enigmatic object located 15@ from Sgr A*. It has been variously classiÐed as an extragalactic source, a Galactic jet source, and a young supernova remnant. We present new observations of G359.87]0.18 between 0.33 and 15 GHz and an H I absorption spectrum and use these to argue that this source is an FR II radio galaxy. We are able to place a crude limit on its redshift of The...
متن کاملFolded Fields as the Source of Extreme Radio-wave Scattering in the Galactic Center
A strong case has been made that radio waves from sources within about half a degree of the Galactic center undergo extreme diffractive scattering. However, problems arise when standard (“Kolmogorov”) models of electron density fluctuations are employed to interpret the observations of scattering in conjunction with those of free-free radio emission. Specifically, the outer scale of a Kolmogoro...
متن کاملFirst Results from Sparo: Evidence for Large-scale Toroidal Magnetic Fields in the Galactic Center
We have observed the linear polarization of 450 μm continuum emission from the Galactic center, using a new polarimetric detector system that is operated on a 2 m telescope at the South Pole. The resulting polarization map extends ∼ 170 pc along the Galactic plane and ∼ 30 pc in Galactic latitude, and thus covers a significant fraction of the central molecular zone. Our map shows that this regi...
متن کاملTurbulent Origin of the Galactic-Center Magnetic Field: Nonthermal Radio Filaments
A great deal of study has been carried out over the last twenty years on the origin of the magnetic activity in the Galactic center. One of the most popular hypotheses assumes milli-Gauss magnetic field with poloidal geometry, pervading the inner few hundred parsecs of the Galactic-center region. However, there is a growing observational evidence for the large-scale distribution of a much weake...
